Gaming PC Guide

Test and finish your PC

Before you install games, make sure the PC starts up and its main parts are working.

Before you turn it on

Check that the case is closed and the power cable is plugged in. If you have a graphics card, connect your monitor to it. Never open the power supply.

  1. Plug in your devices

Connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If you have a separate graphics card, plug the monitor into that card, not the motherboard.

  2. Turn on the PC

Flip the power supply switch, then press the case's power button. Fans and lights may flick on briefly as the PC starts.

  3. Check the BIOS or UEFI screen

When the startup screen appears, make sure it lists the processor, memory, and storage. If something is missing, turn off and unplug the PC before checking connections.

  4. Install your operating system

Follow the operating system's instructions to install it on your storage drive. Get the installation files from the provider's official website.

  5. Get updates and drivers

Run system updates, then download drivers from the official motherboard and graphics-card websites.

  6. Give everything a final check

Check that the display, sound, network, storage, and fans all work. If the PC shuts down, sounds unusual, or smells burnt, turn it off and unplug it before checking further.
